Visit by Rtn. Steve Howe, Assistant District 1070 Governor (Area 6) & Members of Northampton Community Sheds

Mon, Sep 9th 2019 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Steve will speak plans for the 2019-20 Rotary Year and we will hear about Northampton Community Sheds

Members of Northampton Community Sheds find fresh purpose while enjoying conversation and companionship. The ’Shedders’ like to make stuff, fix stuff, talk about stuff and sometimes do nothing at all – but together. Shedders continually discover and explore new ideas and develop new skills.

We have made a place to find good humour; where men work together ‘shoulder to shoulder’ – as mates. Shedders are active, enthusiastic and creative. Some Shedders have found this to be a place where they are able to shake-off feelings of isolation or loneliness. Companionship grows from conversation – about anything – including what they are working on and how they are going to do it.

Shedders make things for themselves, for the Shed and for the community. Sheds raise their own funds and are self-run; giving them a special sense of freedom as well as responsibilty. Everyone has a say in key decisions. In the Community Shed, people feel useful and valued.

Our first Northampton Community Sheds was opened in September 2016. This can be found at Spencer Contact, next door to Screwfix in Gladstone Close (see Contacts). The Shed is currently open on Tuesdays from 08.30am to 4.00pm and on Fridays from 08.30am to 1.00pm.
