Skittles Competition at the Lamb and Flag, Blagdon Hill

Retitled “Ninepin News” this week as our team reached the Final of District 1200 Skittles League – and WON. Taunton Vale are the Champions.

On no less a note, 32 Members and two of Rory’s Grandsons from Wales, met at the Lamb & Flag, Blagdon Hill, for a convivial evening and hurled a few balls down an unforgiving alley. After all those wanting to play had watched their 9 balls each travel an unintended trajectory, there was a break for a buffet supper before the serious business of the Hinton Trophy Match. 

David Hinton, Historian, Raconteur, Skittles organiser and Vale News Editor, met an untimely death from Brain Cancer, and his widow, Jane, presented a silver cup in his memory, to be played for by Taunton Vale Members. 

Ten top scorers then had 3 balls each to whittle away the field until a winner emerged – Bill Tregillus. The cup was presented to him by President Kathryn.

Afterwards, donations in the pot were counted and a grand sum of £203, plus a matching sum from Charity Fund was declared, so that a cheque for £406 will be sent to Brain Tumour Research Charity, nominated by Jane.
