Dr. Joan Mowat - the impact of poverty on children

Thu, Feb 20th 2020 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Dr. Mowat will be talking to us on Thursday 20th February about the impact of poverty on children’s attainment and well being - Visitors are especially welcome.

The impact of poverty on childrenattainment and wellbeing.

I will discuss the key policy recommendations to emerge from a seminar series exploring this issue.

The seminar series was organised by a team of four universities, five 3rd sector organisations and representatives of two local authorities - Glasgow and Inverclyde. It was sponsored by the Scottish Universities Insight Institute.

An aspect of the work focused on childrens sense of belonging at school. Children from St Rose of Lima Primary School in Glasgow and Inverclyde Academy were involved in the research

A set of research briefs for schools, childrens services and policy makers was produced along with a set of key recommendations.

Representatives of the team met with the Scottish Government to share the findings. I look forward to sharing this work with you on behalf of the team.
