Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 12th July.
President Sandy Farquharson welcomed members to our Friday meeting, in particular Allan Cheetham, now a gentleman of leisure having recently retired. Council has proposed that once a month the club should meet on Thursday evening rather than Friday lunchtime, and Sandy is looking into how this might best be arranged. Colin Bayes announced that we have once again entered the Gavel competition, although this will now be organised differently. Details awaited. Sandy Leven thanked members who have watered the plants at Stirling station, which are now in full bloom and looking good.
Philip Allison spoke about his late mother in law Nancy Paterson, a woman of considerable character who was well known to most members. Nora was born in West Wittering into a family of boat builders and met her husband to be Archie Paterson during the second world war while working as a nurse. Archie was in hospital as a result of a footballing injury.
Like many others they were separated by the war, but came together again, and were married in 1953, eventually producing two daughters.
Archie like his wife was a very lively character and very much part of Stirling society both in his work and many sporting activities. Nora died recently age 94, to the end interested in what was going on around her.
Next week's meeting 19th July Speaker's host Derek Anderson, Visitor's host Tom Wilson.
