ROTARY PRESENTS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

The Annual Rotary Club of Cirencester Community Service Award was recently presented to Gerry Watkins by Rotary President Susan Bishop.

Gerry has been instrumental in providing a sanctuary for homeless people in Cirencester by fundraising to purchase a bus which is now known as the “The Big Yellow Bus Project”  The bus now provides shelter for up to seven homeless individuals, having been refurbished with financial support from many sponsors.

Colin Harrison Chairman of the Club’s Local Community Service Committee said “Gerry is a worthy recipient of this award and truly embodies the Rotary Motto of “Service above Self””

On receiving the Award Gerry said  “I am honoured to receive the Award and  only just coming to terms with what I have achieved.  It was after reading of a homeless person having his tent burnt down that I decided to start fundraising for the project. I am now planning more buses in Stroud and Swindon “
