The speaker, Mike Bunn, has been a volunteer with the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway for the past six years working in the retail department at Toddington Station. A life-long interest in railways was stirred into action by regularly visiting his local railway station in Essex after school to watch the 4pm branch train depart behind an ancient,  usually filthy, tank engine with steam leaking from everywhere; a memory he describes as 'magical'! In later years, he undertook a 1,700-mile journey around the UK photographing and learning about the many Victorian engineering projects and artefacts that adorn our railway system. He is a speaker, author and researcher, having written a number of features for national and local railway, transport, military, genealogy and other specialist publications. In 2016 he published his first full history of the local fire service in collaboration with Essex Fire Museum; a second, similar history featuring Warwickshire was published in April last year.
