Speaker meeting at SCCC (1875 Club)

Mon, Oct 28th 2019 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

John Binns Part 3 - A lifetime of buttock clenching moments.

30 Club Members plus two members of Wellington Club attended, once we had gained entry to the building. Our speaker was - once again - John Binns, who gave an excellent talk on 'Buttock clenching moments in Submarines' and it certainly lived up to its title! John's talk ranged over the Mediterranean, China, Hong Kong, the Cairngorms (UK), the Barents Sea, above and below the waves, and deep into submarine engine rooms with steam driven 1920s engines with and without nuclear power. He also reflected on how his naval career developed and affected his personal life. He was a busy man!

Paul Mullens thanked him for his very informative talk and this was well supported by Members present. We all look forward to John's next presentation as he has only got as far as the fall of the Berlin Wall!

Phil showed a short video of last year's Rotary Technology Tournament at Poundbury School, which impressed us all. Our event will be in March 2020, and sponsoring businesses are being sought to defray costs.

Next Meetings: Wednesday November 6th Breakfast Club;

November 11th Moonraker Prizegiving at SCCC - D/R Roderick;

November 18th Out Meeting TBA D/R Chris Rickard.

Ball Draw won by Rory, but still no joker. £220 next time!
