Moonraker Presentation Evening

Mon, Nov 11th 2019 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

at SCCC

A well-attended SCCC for the annual Prizegiving for Moonraker….Walkers, Raynet, Sponsors and Recipients was preceded by a minute’s Silence to Remember The Fallen.

President Kathryn welcomed everyone, with praise for those who had braved the weather on the night, and for the teamwork behind the organisation. She spoke of the Charities and of the use that Rotary made of their portion of the sum raised in the Community.

Kathryn thanked Raynet members for their active help in Search and Rescue and FirstCare Ambulance for their passive role in just being there. There was also a mention of the householders who had allowed Checkpoints to use their electricity and WiFi connections without charge. Inner Wheel and Halcon Centre were also mentioned for their help in feeding the troops.

Bill Tregillus then gave his thanks and asked for feedback and any questions about the route, so that planning for next year could begin. He hoped that there would be a good number who had enjoyed their experience and would pass it on to encourage others to take part.

Time to eat… A buffet meal of Rice with Pork and Mushroom or Vegetable Stroganoff.

Justin Roxburgh, the CEO of Arc Inspire, then explained how the money they would be given would help to house the Homeless in the area, and that rough sleepers were sought out to offer shelter and assistance on a daily basis. He also warned about giving money to street beggars, who, he said were often NOT homeless.

Kara Frampton who represented St Margaret’s HospiceCare, then gave her thanks for the money they would receive, saying that it required over five million pounds a year to keep up the care they provided, much of which was raised from volunteers like those present.

Certificates and awards were presented by Evelyn Adfield from PorterDodson, and Caroline Thorne from MHA Monahans to the winners and runners-up of the two loops.

Three teams had raised over £1,000, Halcon Centre, Walkie Talkies (£1,235) and the winners of the highest sum raised were MHA Monahans with £1,293.

Money brought in this evening was £13,017 so with Gift Aid the final result should be around £15,000.

Next meeting on Monday 18th November will be Opt-In. See separate email. Replies by FRIDAY please to D Janes.

Monday 25th November at SCCC. Speaker the Mayor and Chair of New Council. s/f  R Purves d/r T Rowcliffe. Meal apologies to R Austin.
