With the unavailability of the President and two Vice-Presidents, it fell to Paul Vaesen and Jim Anderson to attend the Seaford Cricket Club’s Annual Awards Evening to present an award on behalf of Seaford Rotary Club.
This is an award which the Youth Services Committee agreed to sponsor for three years for the junior member, who is not only a valued team member in his own age group, but also makes a significant contribution to the Club by readily volunteering when there are other jobs to be done. The award provides the winner with an engraved shield, £100 towards kit and free subscription for the following year. This was the second time for us to present the award.
Our award was one of many to be presented during an evening well attended by players, parents of junior members, and friends of the Club. The evening commenced with reports by all the junior team managers who selected for special mention their best batsman, bowler, and fielder who each received a personal memento.
Paul Vaesen explained to those present the work that Seaford Rotary does for the Youth of the town, including the various Youth competitions that we run and the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) to which we send two youngsters each year during the Easter holiday. He then duly presented the award for the Seaford Rotary Young Player of the Year to Billy Wootten.
