Izzy's trike

18th October 2018

EARLIER this year we provided a specially adapted trike for four-year-old Izzy Carpenter who has Cerebellar Hypoplasia with a secondary diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Izzy also has problems with growth, the ability to walk and eyesight issues amongst others. Her mother Sophie arranged to try an adapted trike earlier in the year to see if it would help strengthen her legs. She therefore approached us to see if we could help them purchase a machine specially adapted for Izzy’s needs. We were pleased to able to help and funded the full purchase price of over £1000.
Last Thursday (18th October) we visited Izzy to see how she was getting on. It was great to see her confidently riding the trike around with no assistance from Mum or Dad. It was lovely to see their two-year-old son Lucas competing with Izzy on his scooter. The family now can go together for family walks/rides along the promenade. They also reported that she can now walk without using her NHS walker frame which is a huge step forward.
We were also particularly impressed with the quality of the trike which will survive the rough and tumble of family life. Hopefully it can be handed on to other families with similar problems once Izzy outgrows it.
