Sadly, he died on 21 March 2015, as a result of an illness contracted some time earlier, while acting as a Rotary Volunteer in .

Roger was a keen Bridge player, and delighted in passing on his knowledge to Rotarians and others.  Following his death, this competition was set up in his memory.  The inaugural competition was organised by Angela Westlake and held at her home in February 2016.

Future competitions are organised by the previous year’s winners.

Following Angela's death, the competition was not held in 2018.
