On Thursday 7th November 2019 President Ewen Macdonald welcomed 22 Club Rotarians and 2 guests Rotarian Ken Livermore from the Rotary Club of Burntisland and Kinghorn and speaker Agnes Whyte to this our lunch meeting, which was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.

On reception was Peter May and Geoff Sampson who said grace.

This week our guest speaker was Agnes Whyte MBE Chairman from Breathe Easy who we had made our main recipients from the Vintage afternoon Tea. Breathe Easy Kirkcaldy, a support arm of the British Lung Foundation, which helps local people with lung conditions.

She has raised more than £46,000 for the Foundation over the years and was instrumental in the campaign to have smoking banned in cars where there are children. She also works closely with the senior charge nurse in Fife’s only acute respiratory unit at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital, who describes her as ‘truly remarkable.’

Agnes ensures patients who make regular visits to hospital due to their illness can be admitted direct to the specialist respiratory ward so they can get treatment as early as possible.

Agnes spoke about the effect that many household products have on the environment especially to individuals’ lungs and the importance of placing masks over your nose/mouth to stop inhalation of the products being used. Hot soapy water was to be considered before the aerosols. She also mentioned how the £750 we had given her charity last week would be used as they were looking to start two new groups with one being in Glenrothes. Breathe easy support people with lung conditions giving them confidence living with the condition and also giving their carers help.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Wilna Roger
