Visit of Mary Whitehead - District Governor
On the 6th November 2019 Mary Whitehead, the District 1260 Governor, visited our Club and met many of the Amersham Rotarians. She did this by only visiting her own lunch plate occasionally, whilst circulating round the tables to talk with our members. Mary’s informality and friendliness were appreciated and created a good atmosphere for her subsequent talk to the Club.
Mary acknowledged the achievements and activities of our Club and referred to the progress on getting new members. In that context she stressed how Rotary must explore new and diverse channels for Rotary Service and praised the progress of Rotate in the case of Amersham. David Bevan presented the registration forms to Mary, so that Rotate can become an “official” satellite of the Rotary Club of Amersham.
Turning to the importance of Rotary Foundation, Mary also mentioned the continued need to concentrate on Polio Eradication, and she was joined by Dieter Shaw to update us on some recent developments in the international funding of this project.
Other priorities were discussed and reviewed, and Amersham Rotarians were given valuable insights into the things which were seen as important from a District perspective. President Barbara thanked Mary warmly for a visit which was much appreciated.
