Technology Tournament

Our annual competition for teams from local secondary schools

Each year our club in conjunction with the other Rotary Clubs in Hitchin, organises a Technology Tournament in a local secondary school, for teams of young people to compete in meeting a technical challenge devised by Rotary In Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I).

Rotary GB&I sets the challenge which is then used by all clubs and districts which run their own tournament over the months from late Autumn to Spring each year.

The 2019 Tournament was held at the Priory School on Thursday 14th November. 14 teams each of 4 students from 5 local schools took part in the project which involved teamwork, problem solving, construction, and creation of a portfolio. All the students found the project exciting, challenging, and brilliant. The project had 3 levels of difficulty, foundation, intermediate, and advanced, based on the age of the students.

The Foundation level winning team was Hitchin Girls School, with runners up Princess Helena College, Preston.

The Intermediate section was won by Princess Helena College, with Hitchin Boys School runners-up.

Winners of the Advanced level came from Princess Helena College and the runners-up were Knights Templar School, Baldock.

The winning teams and runners-up each received a trophy - pictured - and members of all the teams taking part received a Certificate of Achievement for their individual portfolio.

All involved had an exciting and enjoyable experience.
