Phil Packer MBE (mil) MA MA(Ed) FRSA is a Charity Ambassador, Patron and Campaigner. He has been the recipient of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year; Helen Rollason Award and Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year.
In 2008, Phil sustained injuries to his heart, ribs and catastrophicdamage to his spinal cord. Just over a year later he embarked on threephysical challenges within a six-month period that would inspiremillions. His efforts raised over £1.3million for the wounded. Herowed the English Channel, completed the London marathon on crutches over 14 days and hauled himself up El Capitan, completing 4,250 pull ups over 4 days.
Since 2008, Phil has been an Ambassador and Patron to numerous charities including the NSPCC, The Prince’s Trust, UK Scouting, Cardiac Risk in the Yong (CRY) and The Children’s Trust. He is the Founder and Non-Paid Chief Executive of the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT).
In March 2010, Phil completed the 3 Peaks Challenge over 72 hours for Sport Relief with Kate Silverton and was joined by Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Clive Woodward. In April, he then completed the London Marathon again; finishing the 26-mile course for 26 charities in 26 hours; a young ambassador from each charity walked a mile with him.
After a year of training, in 2012, he walked 2012 miles throughout every county of Great Britain & Northern Ireland to raise awareness of mental health and psychological trauma. Walking 1 mile for Phil is the equivalent of 3 to 4 miles for someone without a spinal cord injury. With his spinal cord injury, this was the equivalent of walking 310 marathon distances in 331 days.
