Rotary at Christmas

The Rotary Club of Furness hopefully helped to make Christmas a bit brighter for those in need in our community.

The Rotary Club of Furness, like clubs throughout the country, is trying to make Chrismas a bit brighter for those in need in our community.

We recently held a collection for the Furness Homeless Support Group with generous shoppers at Tesco in Barrow helping to raise over £700, which the club topped up to £1000. Shoppers also donated food to the Homeless Centre on the day.

The Furness Club, together with the Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula, also collected almost 2000 coats to help to keep the needy warm this winter, and again the public were very generous.

On the lighter side of things the club held its first ever Santa Dash in Barrow Town Centre and we hope we can build on this in the years to come.

This Christmas, Rotary Clubs, in partnership with KidsOut, are making it possible for 8,000 children (& Carers) either to have a Festive Day Out meeting (and in some cases, having lunch with Santa), or take advantage of the free Christmas Show / Pantomime tickets provided by KidsOut in Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool and London.
These disadvantaged children would not ordinarily have the opportunity to enjoy such an experience.

These are just examples of the hundreds of different initiatives carried out by Rotary Clubs throughout the country during the festive season.

Everyone at the Rotary Club of Furness wishes you a happy Christmas and good health and happiness in 2020.
