Denis Robson spoke about the RYLA in Malawi. He thanked the club for sponsoring one delegate, Moses Supuni. The leaders were from Scotland and, along with 16 Malawians, had enjoyed a 5 night camp in Zamba Plateau. All the delegates had been educated in local villages.
One of the problems facing this country is de-forestation and climate change. They had many activities including rubbish collection and business workshops.
At the end of the camp the delegates had completed a self-assessment questionnaire. These were very upbeat. It had obviously been a very successful project. At the end of the camp some of them went mountaineering.
Many local Scottish clubs plus Interact had provided help.
Plans for RYLA Malawi 2020 are well advanced. One of the projects being planned is the building of a bridge to replace one lost in the floods.
Denis returns to Malawi shortly. He invited members to go with him. Wild life safaris are excellent in this country.
