THE WORK OF THE R&A At our meeting on 18th Feb, member David Sandford introduced his guest speaker, Duncan Weir from the R&A. Brought up in Fife and with great success as an international junior golfer, Duncan went on to gain a degree in Economics in the USA, with a golf scholarship. With such a strong golf pedigree, Duncan has been able to have a long and very successful career with the R&A, appointed as their first Director of Golf Development in 1999, and currently the R&A Executive Director of Golf Development and Amateur Championships. In his illustrated talk, Duncan highlighted the current R&A plan to spend over £200m in global golf development over the next 10 years, utilising much of the income generated from the Open.
