A meaty tour of Scotland

.

The Club's meeting of 11 February was entertained by Club Member Douglas Scott, recently retired Chief Executive of Scottish Craft Butchers, founded in 1918 as the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders.

The talk was profusely illustrated and included a most interesting whistle stop tour of many of the 400 member butchers' premises throughout Scotland, Douglas pointing out that, perhaps surprisingly, some butchers South of the border were also members. Those 400 members represent about two thirds of Scotland's butchers, a total that surprised many of his audience.

Douglas outlined the liaison that takes place with other organisations, specialities and innovations within the industry, and the competition between members that climaxes at various shows throughout the year. Winners at such events proudly announce their success.

A most interesting evening on what has become a thriving trade. Fellow Member Ian Grieve's vote of thanks commended Douglas on his, and the Craft butcher members' achievements.
