Rotary Club of West FifeNotes from Club Meeting on Zoom 21st April 2020
With thanks to committee conveners for their help in compiling these notes, the following is a very brief note of the main topics raised at our club’s first virtual meeting on Zoom.
(NB I have not included items which may have been mentioned but are already recorded in the Notes of the Council meeting held on the 7th April)
Welcome
President Brian opened the meeting by welcoming all 27 members who successfully managed to attend our club’s first virtual meeting.
COMMUNITY & VOCATIONAL
Neil raised the issue of support for local communities. It was agreed we should allocate the sum of £1000 to be used to support our local communities. Neil will consult with his Community & Vocational committee and report on any proposals.
In the light of the news that other Rotary clubs are donating their monthly draw money to foodbanks the subject of our club’s monthly draw monies was raised.
It was agreed to suspend the monthly draw until further notice and accumulate a sum of £250 /month (draw donations topped up by the club) for the use at the Clubs discretion for nominated local worthy causes.
FOUNDATION & INTERNATIONAL
Donald made the suggestion that the outstanding money in the International budget could be donated to a worthy cause such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or a similar organisation. No decision taken as yet on this worthwhile suggestion.
FUNDRAISING
Tom mentioned that about now he would normally be booking the venue for the Ultimate Quiz Night, which would again normally involve paying a deposit. Douglas advised the staff at Dunfermline FC - East End Park have been furloughed. This matter requires further discussion not least whether we should be supporting the BBC Children in Need Appeal this year. Prior to any booking being made, assurances should be sought in relation to refund of any deposit if the current situation remains as is.
Other Matters
Brian informed the revised date for the Charter Dinner is 11th September with the guest speaker also confirming that this date also suits him.
