Technology Challenge 2020

Mr. A. Bowker, Glossopdale and Mr. C. Greenwood, St Philip Howard with President Steve Robertson and the shared winners trophy

Two schools took part in our fourth Technology Challenge, Glossopdale and St. Philip Howard schools.

This year involved building a flashing beacon with at least one advertising billboard.

Points were awarded for each flash of the beacon over 20 in one minute! A tough task but all the teams managed at least 10 flashs and four teams achieved the full 20 marks.

Glossopdale entered five teams in a bid to retain their title and St Philip Howard entered two teams.

One team from Glossopdale and one team from St. Philip Howard achieved joint first place, the first time two teams to have achieved the same score.

The members of the winning teams will each receive the latest Raspberry PI 4 computer.

The winner’s trophy will be shared for six months each.

A huge thank you to:

Mr. A.Bowker at Glossopdale School for hosting the event in their new engineering block and their generous hospitality.

Technician, John, for his technical and material support for both schools.

Mrs. V. Ryan and Mr. C Greenwood for continuing to support this event

Lastly, but most importantly all 29 of the students for their hard work and infectious enthusiasm and their amazing “out of the box” thinking and design.
