 Coronavirus Pandemic

ROTARY life goes on within the self isolating Coronavirus world
imposed to protect us from this deadly virus.
Birstall Luddites are now using our WhatsApp group "Rotary"
to keep Rotary business going forward and keeping
social life active between Rotarians.
To improve meeting capabilities the club is starting to use ZOOM
video meetings
There are a few Rotarians not up to the WhatsApp world  who
are still in touch via email.
Members are also being "buddied to able to join Zoom meetings.

Howden Clough Comunity Center
Birstall Food Share
We collect food from the public and redistribute it to families in need, providing enough food for the whole family for three meals a day for a week.  The initiative is driven by a Birstall couple, Lisa Holmes and her partner, supported by a team of volunteers, largely from the community they support. They refer to them selves as a food share, not a food bank. For about 3 or 4 years, they have used personal and professional contacts to get donations of food from local businesses, which for the last year they have distributed on a self referral basis (ie, not referred by the Council) to needy residents of Howden Clough, who are welcomed at the Centre once a week. About 50 families a week have been benefitting not only from food but the social contact over a cup of tea.
