In line with current restrictions, the Rotary Club of St Andrews has suspended all lunchtime meetings until further notice.
However, the President asked the Club’s officers to join him on a conference call by video link to consider how the Club could best stay in touch with its members over the coming weeks and ensure that its work in support of the wider community would continue.
There was immediate agreement to respond to a request from the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), which provides vital care for children with life-shortening conditions, and respite for their families, at Rachel House in Kinross. £500 has been sent to help meet the shortfall in the charity’s funding caused by the Corona epidemic.
Other possible ways to provide ongoing support for the local community were put forward and will be circulated to all members for consideration as quickly as possible.
Ideas to keep members involved and even entertained during the most severe restrictions were also discussed. One idea would be to ask some of those who had been scheduled to speak at the Club’s weekly meetings to make a short video of their talk instead. The Club could then share the video with members, by means of the internet, perhaps at the usual weekly meeting time.
In any event the Club is determined to work proactively to keep members involved and most importantly to provide help in the community, wherever it is possible to do so.
