Wirksworth Rotary steps up during lockdown to help those in need at this difficult time

During the COVID-19 pandemic, members of Wirksworth Rotary and their partners have been very pleased to be able to help the Jigsaw Foodbank in Matlock, by getting involved with packing food bags and delivering them to those in need in Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock and the surrounding area.

The packing and delivery is done strictly in teams of two, working as couples, so we are very much following the UK Government's guidelines on social distancing.

The bags contain not just a wide variety of essential foodstuffs, including fresh fruit and vegetables, but also toiletries and cleaning products, and give much needed help and support to those who are unable to provide for themselves during this time of crisis.

We are very much indebted to the Rotary District 1220 team and the Rotary4Foodbanks scheme, who have sourced and delivered a large number of staple items to Jigsaw to help them maintain their supplies.

The proceeds of our Plant Sale in May 2020, which exceeded £2900, were also donated to the Jigsaw Foodbank. The weekly food bags provided by Jigsaw are now needed more than ever, with an increasing number of people depending on their help, as the impact of the pandemic takes hold and affects the livelihoods of so many in our community.
