COVID-19 'Together we are Stronger'
In this time of uncertainty and with many members of our community having to self-isolate this was and remains the perfect opportunity for Brynmawr Rotary to do what it does best, help when help is needed, be it people who are vulnerable, isolated, worried or in need within our community. So, we took action and formulated an immediate community response team. The first part of the plan involved helping those in Isolation being helped by those of us who could go out as we were able to, collect shopping, prescriptions or to just make friendly phone calls to those we were aware of and those who the local authority made us aware of who could benefit from our services.
However, the Project has grown and has also now developed to a supplementary Foodbank working alongside the Trussell Trust Foodbank operating out of Tabor in Brynmawr. Actively we are helping those in times of worry whilst waiting for their government food boxes to be delivered, those who were known to be struggling or in some cases whilst foodbank vouchers were being sorted out. The links to those in need being made through confirmed links and therefore ensuring the project is efficiently and ethically managed.
We had a fantastic relationship with Greggs and Fareshare where we utilised their end of day products and Greggs emptied their shop into our care before closing and much of that went into helping the community immediately, and items went to the NHS for our Heroes to have refreshments when they need ed it.
Tesco’s Ebbw Vale continue to help us help Nursing homes, people in need and other organisations weekly with their produce, for which we are indeed more than grateful, equally we are overwhelmed to have received a grant to help us purchase more items from Tesco’s themselves which will help us continue what we do.
It has been so gratifying to have personal food donations given to the ‘Together We Are Stronger’ project during Covid-19 and it continues to be humbling to help those in our communities who need that immediate help.
We are also so very proud of our members who are key workers on the front line as nurses in ITU, working with Those with Health needs in the community, teachers and within Government settings too. As a Group of all ages we continue to meet online using Zoom…. a new skill learned for some of our members!
It is times like this when communities across the world come together to support each other and the most vulnerable members of our society. If you feel you can help Rotary be even stronger we would welcome you contacting us via our website, www.brynmawrrotary.co.uk on our Facebook page, or by email email@example.com and we will be pleased to speak with you as to how you can help us help our communities.
Stay Safe - Together we are Stronger.
