It was, yet another, special evening at the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw, tonight, when President Katrina Gibbons inducted our newest member, Jean Murray.
Immediate Past-President Andrew Murray nominated Jean and gave a short introduction, advising that Jean was born in Motherwell, attending Glencairn Primary and Berryhill Primaries and Wishaw High School. After studying French and German at Glasgow University, jean entered the teaching profession eventually becoming Head Teacher at Shawlands Academy. Taking early retirement, she became an educational consultant and, latterly, has concentrated on timetabling. Jean became a Rotarian 25 years ago, joining Shawlands Rotary Club and moving on to East Kilbride - Kittoch Rotary Club. After being inducted, Jean she said she is looking forward to contributing to Motherwell & Wishaw Rotary Club in every way possible, particularly projects to do with young people.
The speaker for the evening was Andrew Murray who spoke on his fascination with drones. He explained some of the technical aspects and how drone technology was advancing – good aspects and some scary aspects. He had a number of videos showing how the drones worked then he showed parts of Scotland that he had filmed using his own drone that had been used by several holiday companies.
President Katrina closed the meeting by thanking Andrew for an interesting and very informative presentation.
