THE STRANGS AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

On 10 June the Club members and partners were given a presentation with photos by Bill and Julie Strang about their attendance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration in 2012 – some time ago but the memories understandably still fresh and so interesting to us all.

Bill recalled an advert inviting members of the public to apply for guest tickets to attend the Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace on Monday 4 June 2012. Julie suggested they apply. They did and they were lucky enough to be selected.

They stayed at a Gatwick hotel as central London was so busy and they travelled in with the Gatwick Express to join thousands queuing for the event. The organisation was efficient. They made their way through to the Palace gardens, where they were presented with a magnificent food hamper – each! -and a glass of champagne.

After the garden party they made their way out to reserved seats for the evening concert in front of the Palace.

Bill then handed over to Andrew Clark who showed a short video of the concert highlights.

As a post-script Bill told us that there was a minor hiccup on the return journey as the airline was reluctant to allow Bill and Julie on to the plane with hampers – albeit empty by now – as well as hand luggage but they relented when told these were from Buckingham Palace. During the flight the captain announced that there were special guests of the Queen on board.

President Lindsay thanked Bill and Julie for their fascinating presentation
