My Role as a Parliamentary Private Secretary

Guest Speaker Sian Joseph, Deputy Director Ceremonials for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports


Sian joined the Civil Service inn 2013, where she worked at the Cabinet Office.  Since then she has had roles in D.W.P. and Parliament and is now Deputy Director for Ceremonials in DCMS.

Sian spoke to us about her experience between 2016 and 2018, when she was Senior Private Secretary to the Secretary of State in the Department for Work and Pensions, serving Damian Green, David Gauke and Esther McVey.   She explained the role and shared her insights of working with Ministers.  Sian outlined how it is a busy but hugely interesting role and gave a glimpse of what working at the heart of Government in really like.
