100 Years of British Signals Intelligence

David is the Historian at GCHQ, and gave us a fascinating insight into the workings of Signals Intelligence from the time of the Boer War onwards.   David explained the ways technology has been used to intercept signals from the early telegraph messages, through the development of computers and cracking the Enigma code up to the present day gathering intelligence in cyber space. David was able to assure us that the present location of GCHQ in Cheltenham had nothing to do with the Director's love of horseracing.  Overall, a thoroughly absorbing glimpse into how the nation has been protected for over a century.

Rtn David Hubbard was a good choice to give a vote of thanks since he has read up to page 265 of "Behind the Enigma", a book which he had received from his son at Christmas 2020.    A very good informative evening
