This Young Writer Competition like most other youth competitions it runs across 3 age groups and encourages young people to use their writing skills and to write with imagination and creativity.
The English department at Levenmouth Academy were approached to gauge interest in participating in this competition and they came back very interested in getting involved. A topic is selected centrally and for the year 2019/20 was “Connections” . A deliberately broad topic is chosen to allow the participants maximum scope for creativity.
For the first year a healthy number of entries from intermediate and senior age groups were received and the schooled selected the best three from each of the age groups. These selections were then given to a group of three external judges sourced by the Rotary Club and each judge independently ranked the entries. An average of the ranking then produced the overall result.
In the intermediate group ages 11 to 13 yrs , 1st was Leah MacFarlane, 2nd Kristina Tomina and 3rd Crystal Birrell
In the senior age group 14 – 17 yrs 1st was Reece Cameron and Joint second was Sophia Maxwell and Marina Hendra.
All participants received participation certificates and the winners book tokens. The winning entrant from each class progresses to the next level in the competition.
It is hoped to extend the competition into one or more primary schools in the year 2020/2020 to include the junior age group 7- 10years
