Weekly meeting

Thu, Jul 23rd 2020 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

15 members attended tonight's meeting, held via Zoom

At this evening's meeting President Mike Haythorpe considered the Objects of Rotary, and pointed out that Rotary is primarily a Service organisation, rather than a fundraising organisation. Obviously we need to raise money to fund our service activities, but as a means to an end rather than as our primary function. He wants our Duty Rotarian each week to provide a 'thought for the day' based on what Rotary means to them.

Our mystery object tonight was provided by Peter S, and turned out to be a machine, designed in the 1950's, for converting negative photos into prints. As photo processing was his family business, he remembers using machines such as these, and later models which accomplished the job with greater efficiency.

We were also treated to photos of Paul W's handiwork, notably a bridge over a stream outside his house, made from wooden pallets, and a canvas awning for his garden.

We also attempted a 'True or False' quiz compiled by Pat, and had time for a humorous video before President Mike brought the meeting to a close.
