Respite Day Out for Young Carers - August 2019

August 2019 - 29 of Wiltshire's Young Carers enjoy a day out at Thorpe Park

RC of BOA were delighted to be able to fund a respite event for 29 young carers from across Wiltshire on a day out to Thorpe Park in August 2019. An exciting day out that “still had them buzzing when they got home” was enjoyed by all.

Established in 1998 as one of the first young carers support projects in the country, Wiltshire Young Carers (WYC) currently have 650+ open cases for young carers aged from 5-18 years.

Working through the Wiltshire Community First network WYC support families through a referral process and will create action plans to ensure young carers are safe in their caring roles by providing equipment, training and access to specialist support.  Their mentoring of the young carers will help the carers overcome their individual challenges. WYC work in partnership with Carer Support Wiltshire to deliver a wide-ranging programme of exciting respite activities and breaks for young carers, including adventure, arts and sports activities.  They facilitate issue-based workshops, volunteering opportunities and non-formal learning programmes and provide advocacy for young carers to ensure they can meet their full potential within education.
