The Rotary Club of Derby prides itself on the work that it does in the Community but many of our regular projects are on hold due to the Covid19 pandemic and the ongoing restrictions. Although many of our regular programmes have not been able to take place we have adapted and delivered some new community based support. See the list below for examples of the work we normally undertake.
This Rotary year we have supported a number of community based projects and we will keep these updated below:
Litter Pick at Alvaston Park - 7th May 2021
We joined the Friends of Alvaston Park and Derby Parks on their clean up the park day. Members collected lots of litter, particularly from the various areas of woodland and hedges around the park.
Donations to Safe and Sound & Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre
Following our Christmas collections we are proud to announce that we topped up the amount raised so that we could donate £1500 to each of our chosen charities.
Collection of Towels to support Aquabox
We have received an appeal from a local charity called Aquabox, based in Wirksworth, that produces water filter kits to areas affected by disaster including those affected by flooding in the UK.
Collection of Laptops and Tablets for Schools
We are collecting used tablets and laptops to donate to inner city schools in Derby. Primarily these will benefit Arboretum Primary but we hope to extend this to other local schools too.
This year we still mananged to get out with the sleigh despite increased restrictions and thanks to local business Think3, we had a new Santa Derby website where you could purchase a personlised letter or video message from Santa. Please see our Christmas activities page for more details.
We also took supported Santa and his sleigh on a visit to the Children's Hospital at the Royal Derby Hospital.
