Hannah James spoke to the club about her work on cruise ships

Hannah James

The club were interested to hear from Hannah James in a recent meeting.  Hannah had previously spoken to the club about her life on board the cruise liners.  During the current covid 19 situation she has been safe at home with her parents, John and Christine, 2 members of the Rotary Club of Llantwit Major.

She now knows that she will not be returning to Cunard until May 2021 at the earliest and so is busy finishing an HR Management diploma course, which was difficult to do while on board.
Many crew members have been on board for over 100 days, but thankfully most are now safely home.  Skeleton staff are manning the ships, which are kept running constantly.  The British ships are anchored off the coast around Britain, other fleets are scattered around the world.   When finally back in operation they intend to sail with lower capacity.  Everything is still very uncertain and extremely challenging times are ahead for the industry as a whole.  There is the positive in that a German cruise ship has started operating.
