REDUCING OUR USE OF PLASTIC

Guest Speaker, Grace Onions, 14 July 2020

Grace Onions, a member of Soroptimist International of Croydon and District, gave a brief history of plastics, explaining that its many highly desirable and useful properties, make it versatile and adaptable to accommodate any application. Weighing a fraction of other materials used to make food or drinks containers for example, this reduces transport and other costs.

Recycling is not as easy as we might think.

Long before it became fashionable, Grace has been rejecting plastic bags. In July 2019 Grace campaigned at her local supermarket to encourage the reduction in the use of plastic. [At the date of this meeting we were in week three of Plastic Free July.]

Grace showed a range of products made from alternative materials, together with products now available in glass jars, and toilet rolls wrapped in paper.
