'Every cloud has a Silver lining'

Due to restrictions we have not been able to run our monthly Silver Mondays event at The Light Cinema, we have though continued to have a huge impact on our community here in Wisbech.

The Team at Rotary Wisbech is fortunate to have a charity fund left to the Club by Mrs. M L Green.  This enables our Club to assist elderly people from the local community who are in need of assistance. We receive applications from health professionals and other partner organizations who are best placed to make recommendations, especially during the recent lock-down: all cases are individually assessed to see that they meet the strict criteria of the fund.  Grants we have made include: 

    • Emergency help with outstanding rent £586

    • Replacing old and worn mattress £235

    • Assisting with funeral costs for a loved one £1600

    • Helping a move into sheltered accommodation £65

    • Electric rise chair £600

    • Security help with key box £29

    • New bed to replace old broken one £200

    • Microwave oven £200

    • Rise and recline armchair £262

    • Fridge freezer to help with shopping during isolation £400

    • Carpets to replace old and worn ones £480

In addition we continue to provide smoke detectors for the vulnerable through our partnership with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and recently purchased another 200.

Over £6500 has been spent to support our local people in Wisbech and surrounding areas in the last year.
