Allan Maclaughlan Ken Lindsay - Foundation

Wed, Sep 2nd 2020 at 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Meeting on Zoom

Today's presentation was in two parts.

Firstly Allan Maclaughlan ( lead for Foundation in District 1020) gave us a detailed account about Foundation and stressed that it is Rotary's one and only charity. It is our charity. He thanked Rodger Thom and Ken Lindsay for assisting him on District. Allan explained about the Endowment Fund, District Grants and Global Grants. If there were a league table of donating, Currie Balerno Rotary Club would be high up in it both for Foundation and End Polio Now. However many clubs in District donate much less and some donate nothing. The trend for giving is downwards. There are many reasons for this and there is also the COVID factor. Allan stressed that it was important that Rotarians take ownership of our own charity, Foundation, and encouraged us to give to the annual fund, the endowment fund and EPN.

Secondly Ken Lindsay went through the paper he had previously circulated to all members. He suggested that our income this year is likely to be down, but that is offset by a strong opening balance, a district grant, money from BVT and Cala as well as the meal fund and profit from calendar sales. Ken detailed the proposed donations including £1000 to top up for members not contributing to Foundation. He made a plea for more members to contribute and Andrew Clark stated that forms to set up a standing order were available and £6 per month would equate to the target of $100 per member per rotarian per year. Ken also asked members to try and come up with other ideas for fund raising.

There were many questions and discussion and the VOT was given by Alan Young.
