Our return to Mansfield House Hotel after the Coronavirus lockdown

Fourteen members attended the first actual meeting of Hawick Rotary Club since 5th March. President Ron Smith welcomed members and after a most enjoyable Mansfield House meal some items of business were discussed as we caught up with business.

Messages had been received from members Kerr Scott and Andrew Suddon with their resignations from the Club. As Andy was happy to keep a link to Rotary, members unanimously agreed to offer him Honorary Membership. President / secretary Ron has written to Kerr.

After discussion, several items of forward planning were agreed. It is hoped to be able to proceed with President's Night on Friday 27th November. We will also continue to plan for a fund-raising Quiz in the Spring and a Coffee Morning in May. The Awareness Evening which it was hoped to hold during this Rotary Year however will now be held over until September 2021.

There has been discussion at Area Meetings recently of the establishment of a Borders Area Trust Fund. Details of this were circulated to members in the Minute of an Area Meeting. After consideration, it was agreed that no action be taken on this as previous links between Clubs in support of projects had gone smoothly.

It was agreed that President / Secretary write to those responsible for the Polysport facility at Newcastleton, which had benefited from Rotary's Disaster Response Trust funding, to set up a visit to mark our rรดle in the restoration.

The question was raised of the closed Facebook group for Rotary Clubs in the Borders. There was some uncertainty among members over what the nature of this was. Explanation was given and members were advised to give names to Club Secretary if they wanted to be given an invitation to join the group.

Kelso Rotary Club is having a virtual visit on Thursday from RGBI President Tom Griffin. They have invited other clubs to take part. It is hoped that Ron Sutherland will be able to record relevant parts of that meeting and play it for us on the big screen at our meeting later that evening.
