Rotary Foundation Charity

The Rotary Foundation exists for the furthering of understanding and friendly relations between peoples of different nations through the fostering of tangible and effective projects.

The funds of Foundation are considerable and the dividend from this investment is incalculable and its fruits lie in the future and some funds are also devoted to relief  for war-affected Rotarians and their families. It is an inspiring story of doing good in the world. The advancement of understanding , goodwill and international peace has been a constant goal.

The same principles for Rotary Foundation are ones which would also apply in a person’s business and personal life: live within your means, set aside a reserve for emergencies and provide insurance for descendants.

There are opportunities for all people: nationalities, races and creeds and many of the projects are in the Third World. The Polio Plus programme has been a great success: planning and testing is a new experience for Rotary. Thanks to Polio Plus, the world has discovered Rotary and Rotarians have discovered themselves. By the turn of the millennium global polio cases had declined by 99.8%

In the Ilkley Rotary Club we support Polio Plus, we have a Frugal lunch near Christmas and a Foundation lunch to raise money for the Club and charities. We  arrange afternoon teas with the option of playing  petanque or croquet. The  Rotary Peace Fellow at Bradford University  visits the Club to give a talk about his  or her country and the work for peace causes . In turn members of the Club attend the Robert Huntley Seminar Day at the University each October to hear of the marvellous work being undertaken by other Peace Fellows. In the future, Foundation will continue with its work just outlined to support charities.

These will include those involved with supporting many environmental issues as world wide climate change which  is causing grave concern in so many aspects of global society
