APS Support UK

Prior to 2016, the charity was known as the Hughes Syndrome Foundation - (this is still the official trading name). The new name, APS Support UK, reflects the fact that medical practitioners now almost universally refer to Hughes syndrome as the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). The name change was felt to be in the best interest of all patients as people receive a diagnosis of APS and not Hughes syndrome.
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease which affects the blood and its ability to clot. An overactive immune system produces antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) which cause the blood to clot too quickly both in veins and arteries.
