Alex Evan Wong has been elected for a second term as President of the Rotary Club of West Fife. He previously held the post in the Rotary year 2002-03.
Alex was born In Guyana. South America and won a National scholarship to attend a Jesuit College. He later studied Medicine at Edinburgh University , and taught at Aberdeen University before coming to Fife where the first Clinical Haematology service was started, and continued for 20 years.
Having joined the Rotary club in 1985 Alex became a member of the Rotary Doctor Bank which provided urgent medical help to Malawi`s stretched rural services. West Fife Rotary club has recently won a grant to help poor Malawi women set up a solar lights and mobile phone business in a village where no electricity exists. This will vastly improve life in the village.
On a more local note, Alex hopes to lead the Rotary Club of West Fife to actively seek new members and help with an Employability project for 16-18 year olds.
Alex and his wife Ann, live in Charlestown.
