BECCA DRAUS, OUR 2020-21 ROTARY SCHOLAR

Becca Draus finished her 2020-21 Global Grant scholarship at Strathclyde University in September 2021. It was a difficult year but Becca's resilience ensured her stay was both happy and fulfilling.

Becca Draus, a teacher from Iowa, United States, has completed her Rotary Global Grant Scholarship at Strathclyde University, obtaining a master's degree in Information & Library Studies.  We were her host Club.

Becca's resilience and determination enabled her to see and do nearly everything she had hoped for, in spite of the problems of dealing with the coronavirus restrictions. Although we, as a Club, did all we could to help her, we were prevented from seeing her in person at Club meetings and social events. Nevertheless, Becca regularly attended our Zoom meetings. Her informal input and talks were always inspirational.  Becca was delighted with her welcome and she assured us that her year was filled with good memories of friendship and of Scotland, and that her experiences and academic success will be of huge benefit to her throughout her life.

We wish to thank Becca's sponsoring club, the Rotary Club of Bellevue, Iowa (District 5970), for sending us such a star scholar.

A special thanks to our member, Trevor Graham, who was Becca's Host Counsellor, and to Linda McCormick for so ably assisting him and Becca.

Becca is the most recent of a long line of Rotary postgraduate students that we have had the privilege of helping. We have been the sponsoring club for three Scottish students who went to overseas universities and to several foreign students who have come to Glasgow for their studies.
