Dementia Adventure

The Friday Zoom meeting this months saw 34 members, family & friends joined by Dagfinn Holstad from Rotary Club of Kragero in Norway and guest speaker Kath Vale from Dementia Adventure.

Dementia Adventure is a locally based charity with national coverage supporting people with Dementia, their families and careers.

About Dementia Adventure - Exercise, fresh air and stimulation can help people retain their skills and interests for longer, improve wellbeing and have a positive impact on the lives of people with dementia and their carers/families.  Once diagnosed, people with dementia are at risk of being indoors too much of the time resulting in an unnecessary decline in their physical, emotional and social well-being. Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning charity based in Essex but working nationally. They believe that, with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to do the things they have always enjoyed: get outdoors, remain active, keep connected to friends, family and their community and retain a sense of adventure in their lives. Dementia Adventure provides a range of services – all with nature in mind:

Fully supported dementia holidays, short breaks and outings - Dementia Adventure specialises in designing and delivering, fully supported, small-group experiences for people with dementia and their carers. Their model enables the person with dementia and their partner, family member or friend to enjoy a residential holiday or short break, day trip or outdoor experience together with the support of trained staff and volunteers. Whether they want to relax by the coast, sail on the river, or walk in the mountains, they have something for everyone and welcome people with all types of dementia.  https://dementiaadventure.co.uk/what-we-do/supportedadventures/

Dementia Skills Sessions - Dementia Adventure is providing regular FREE online Dementia Skills Sessions for family and friends caring for somebody with dementia, as well as staff and volunteers who support people with dementia as part of their work. Attendees can connect with experienced dementia trainers, learn more about dementia and receive practical tips and strategies to help them in their supportive role. Sessions start with the key building block in the programme - Thinking Differently About Dementia.  Find out more and book:  https://dementiaadventure.co.uk/what-we-do/training-and-consultancy/dementia-skills-sessions/dss-tdad/

Support for organisations - Their team of experienced trainers deliver a range of dementia training and support tailored to specific organisation. They can up-skill staff and volunteers that already support people living with dementia, help them create inclusive and accessible services across an organisation or set up a nature-based programme specifically for people living with dementia in the local community. https://dementiaadventure.co.uk/what-we-do/training-and-consultancy/

As a charity, Dementia Adventure fundraise to reduce the cost and make their services more affordable.
