Newark Home Start and Cancer Research UK

2019/20 joint Presidents Celia Smallwood and Roger Pykett chosen charities

In these difficult Covid times the Rotary Club of Newark Castle continues to meet by ‘Zoom’ enjoying fellowship via quiz and bingo evenings.
Rotary Presidents traditionally choose to support a Charity and last year our joint Presidents Celia Smallwood and Roger Pykett were no exception choosing Newark Home Start and Cancer Research UK.
Representatives from both Charities namely Sara Grant from Newark Home Start and Ben Petts from Cancer Research UK were invited to speak at our Zoom meeting to thank our members for the donation of £1020 to be split equally and to update us on their essential work .
Sara Grant thanked the club for the donation which will prove to be invaluable with so many local families enduring hardship during the current pandemic. Sara said ‘It has been a challenging time for us all but the organisation is still offering a service to those in need “

Ben Petts from the local Branch of Cancer Research UK highlighted the difficulties they are currently facing and said “ Covid19 has slowed down our research but together we will beat Cancer “.
Fundraising for all Charities has been impacted by the Corona virus but hopefully this money will help them to continue to offer the essential lifeline to members of the local community.
