RCCS President Chris attended Canterbury's Remembrance Day event this morning. Find his report below:
"Pleased and Proud to represent the three Canterbury Rotary Clubs in Canterbury at a much scaled down Remembrance Day event in Canterbury earlier this morning. Start to finish including wreath laying this impressive ceremony took 25 minutes.
The Dean led a much-reduced event in the Kent Memorial Garden at
Canterbury Cathedral. Beautifully maintained, this is a haven of peace within the City . The two-minute silence was eerily quiet – railway noise and an emergency vehicle siren were all that I heard – not even bird song. Apart from four
Royal British Legionstandard bearers representing numerous others only one representative from each organisation was allowed. With the Dean were four Members of the Choir (SATB) who led only one verse of a hymn and the National Anthem.
The great and the good were there – Lord Mayor in all his finery, High Sheriff also in her finery, MP Rosie Duffield CCC Chief Executive in Legal gown and wig, All three services represented by an RN Captain, Army Colonel and an RAF Officer who was too far away to be able to see his rank. Police and Kent Rescue Service represented at Area Commander level."
