Every year District 1285 organises an Excitement of Science lecture at Manchester University, which is free for Y9 and 10 students in the District. This year's lecture 'The Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence' will be a virtual one so that it is possible to offer it online to many more schools. The presentation will be given by Dr Eamonn Kerins, a scientist from Jodrell Bank, who is an excellent communicator.

Clubs.  that would like to invite schools to take part on Wednesday, 24th February 2021, are requested to contact Peter Irwin  (event co-ordinator) with their details including the names of those schools that are interested in taking part. Peter will deal with applications for the event on a first come first served basis because we are limited to the number of zoom visitors we are allowed on our licence. Please see the event poster attached.

Peter will relay messages via Clubs about the live streaming details but not individual schools for logistical reasons and will rely on Clubs to communicate with their schools for updates.

The live event will start at 1.45 pm and some schools will be able to put questions to the lecturer, via a live twitter link, at the end of the presentation. At the moment we are still in a planning stage now that the event has had to become a virtual one, so Peter will send out more details to the Clubs who contact him, when they are available.
