The speaker at the meeting of 16th November was Sarah Easton who gave a presentation about the Wessex – Ghana Stroke Partnership.  She has been involved with them since 2009 when the link with Ghana was established.

The partnership is involved in providing expertise and training in the hospitals with regard to stroke treatment and aims to cover the core skills of Mobility, Communication, Swallowing and Continence. The prevalence of stroke in Ghana was bigger than for Malaria with little or no provision for treatment.

This is now being addressed in the country’s  National Health Insurance Scheme and with help from the Partnership.
