Aims and Objectives

The competition aims to encourage young people to:

  • Take amazing shots in black and white or colour
  • use digital and/or traditional methods of photography
  • demonstrate interpretation of the topic
  • express ideas through the medium of photography

Who can take part?

The competition is open to all schools and college communities and those who are home educated, along with any other young peoples’ community organisations, for example, community RotaKids, Community Interact, Scout Groups, Girl Guides, Brownies, church groups.

There are three age groups:

  • Intermediate: School Years 7-9 - Theme: The Hope of Spring
  • Senior:            School Years 10-12 - Theme: Water, water everywhere

Competition Guidelines

Task

To produce a portfolio of three photographs* based upon the theme for your age group in colour or black and white. The photos must be submitted individually. Each photo should be no larger than A4 size. Mobile Phones may be used in addition to cameras.

No actual examples will be shown here as it will be up to the individual competitors to show their interpretation of the chosen topic.

IMPORTANT RESTRICTIONS TO NOTE: Please note that entries and supporting information sent electronically MUST NOT EXCEED 10Mb per email sent.

To accompany the portfolio, each entrant must provide a brief sentence describing the relationship of each photograph to the theme.

Judges

Persons with appropriate skills from within the Youth & Education team or from the community appointed by Rotary Monmouth. Judges will consider:

technical merit; content and composition; imagination and style.

The judges will not enter into any discussion or correspondence regarding their decision; their decision will be final and not subject to any appeal.

Prizes

At all levels of the competition, competitors will receive a certificate of participation. Winners’ photographs will be displayed on the Rotary Monmouth website and in the local paper*.

Intermediate:     First prize £50
                            Runner up £25
Senior:                First prize £50
                            Runner up £25

How to enter

Entrants are required to complete and submit an entry form. The submission process will be emailed to your parent. Submissions must be received by the Rotary Monmouth Youth and Education Team by the closing date, April 22nd 2022.

Please complete the entry form

Participants should leave their entries at the Reception desk in their school. Entries will be collected from there and returned there once the judging has taken place

*Important Notice: If you are submitting photographs/images of individuals or small groups of people, they must be accompanied by approval from the person/people portrayed.
Please note that photographs/images of people under 18 years old must be accompanied by written permission from the parent, guardian or carer of the person(s) portrayed.
