Celebration night at the Rotary Club of West Fife

A not to be missed event that only West Fife can pull off.

Pre-Festive Greetings one and all!

Well, believe it or not, it’s that time again already; the season of faith, hope and gluttony! This year will be a bit different, however….just in case you hadn’t noticed!!

We will not have the communal opportunity to partake of the gourmet gastronomy that is the Keavil House’s fabulous festive feast – those connoisseur’s culinary cornucopias, those epicurean extravaganzas of yore are now but the ghosts of Christmases past, and indeed it will be presumed that “...you’ll have had your tea!...” when you wend your weary way to the comfort of your own screen-front to transmit your visages via the wonders of the interweb to the online rogues gallery of the Rotary Club of West Fife’s membership and their hingers-oan, at 7:30pm on the evening of Tuesday 15thDecember 2020…..or will be if anyone deigns to turn up! Might just be me talking to my computer – nothing new there!

For our home-made, IT-illiterate festive foray, It is highly advisable to be pre-libated to tholl, I mean, get the best out of your on-line festive frolic – I certainly will be! We hope to have a bit of fun with some games, quizzes, recitations, anecdotes, and seasonal entertainment from two marvelous local musicians – and all in the comfort of your own home!! - So for once they’ll be no complaints about the surroundings, service, food or price of drinks!! ...and they say there’s no good comes of a pandemic!

Oh, and on the subject of pithy anecdotes, rather than ask on the evening and be greeted by the sound of tumbleweed (like at the end of a club evening speech that has bombed), let me ask you all now for your contributions – I know there are bound to be those amongst you bursting to tell a wee tale about a festive faux-pas, Christmas calamity, weird Wenceslas, bamboozling boxing-day, or even a wee jolly joke! Drop me an e-mail and let me know so I can give you the nod on the night…and if no-one does, I’ll just pick on a few likely worthies – be Weihnachten warned!

Goodness knows if technology will favour us, but here’s hoping that as many members, spouses, partners, friends, offspring and pets can sign into our Festive Zoom - on the largest screen you have available so at least you’ll be able to see everyone even if you’re not entertained!

Perchance you will have figured out by now that you can use the ‘chat’ feature to communicate to others [durch Schreiben] in the meeting whilst the main zoom screen is in play, but if desired I will try to provide ‘break-out rooms’ for smaller groups to chat after the scheduled activities, so do acquaint yourself with the vagaries/capabilities of ZOOM ahead of time. (Wish I’d bought shares in February!)

Hopefully most of you will know, there is ‘gallery view’ so you can see everyone who has turned up on the night, and ‘speaker view’ which favours whoever is speaking (oddly enough), so would be good if you are able to flick between them, but that said, I will endeavour to enable the main contributor at any one time to ‘share screen’ so they will be the main feature on your chosen viewing platform.

However, for those of you who ‘don’t like zoom’ – gie’s peace an get ower yersel’- nane o’ us dae; jist man up an get oan wi’ it!
