Brief notes from the comments and information from Janet Lowe Acting AG – 23rd February 2021

Libby Seath will be taking on the post of Assistant Governor from the year 2021-22

Janet provided a brief resumé of her professional background and is a founder member of the Carnegie Dunfermline Club which was established 18 year ago.

Janet very much enjoyed hearing reports from Conveners and commented on our public image as she was able to see information on what we have been doing from our club web site and Facebook pages commenting the information was “well presented”.

All club are finding it difficult with fundraising with the present restrictions because of Covid but “we’re doing a good job” and our International work “is really impressive”, the fact we responded to the situation in Cambodia due to Covid.

Speaking in advance of Alistair Robb DG’s visit to our club on 23rd of March, Janet mentioned district has four or five priorities at the moment the first being membership. Like other districts we are losing members. At one time our district had some 3200 members and now we are at 2400. With the existing age profile this loss is likely to continue unless we can recruit younger members. So, we are going to be asked what we can do as a club to attract new members. It is also important to retain the members, so again we are going to be asked to do a club health check including what type of club we are doing to be; how we will be meeting up in future.

Public image is another of district’s priorities, how we present our image to the community.

Foundation and Polio are other main priorities of District and we are urged to continue to support these. With Foundation we can only get out what we put in.

There have been no reported cases of polio anywhere so far this year but it is important we are able to continue to vaccinate in countries at risk

So, these are the main priorities of District which the DG will focus on and Janet may be asked to revisit later on to see what we have put in place and what and how we are doing.
